Biographical Sketch: Dr. Ilias Nikolakopoulos joined the Coronary Artery Disease Science Center at the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation as a research scholar in July 2019. A 2017 graduate of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, he spent three months at Northwell Health, NY working on periprocedural anticoagulation and risk models for thromboprophylaxis in cancer patients, as one of 10 recipients of the “World Hellenic Biomedical Association and Stavros Niarchos Foundation Research Training Program in Clinical & Experimental Medicine.” Dr. Nikolakopoulos mainly focuses on patients with coronary artery bifurcation lesions, chronic total occlusions and bypass grafts. His research work also involves outcomes after acute myocardial infarction across diverse patient populations, access site selection for cardiac catheterization, radiation safety in the catheterization laboratory, and implementation of novel technologies in health care. He plans to pursue a clinical and research career in cardiology.
