Pulmonary Embolism Response Team and Treatment of PE: Role of the Interventional Cardiologist

Learning Objectives:
  1. Introduce the concept and benefits of a Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT); explain the rationale behind the formation of a multidisciplinary team; and highlight the benefits of a collaborative approach in optimizing diagnosis, risk stratification, and treatment.
  2. Explore the role of the interventional cardiologist in PE management, including catheter-directed thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy, and adjunctive techniques such as IVC filter placement, PFO closure, treatment of thrombus in transit, and advanced cardiac support.
  3. Discuss emerging trends and advancements in the interventional treatment of PE, including device technologies and expanding populations at risk.
