Learning Objectives:
  1. Share a case presentation of a heavily calcified lesion.
  2. Recognize how adequate lesion preparation is critical not only to device delivery, but additionally to adequate stent expansion, which is associated with both short-term and long-term efficacy of stent technologies.
  3. Explain the central role of intravascular imaging in the assessment of treatment strategies for calcific coronary artery lesions.
  4. Discuss the role and indications for the available plaque modification therapies, including specialty balloons (scoring and cutting balloons, IVL) and atherectomy devices (RA, OA) for specific roles, taking into consideration their unique technical considerations for the treatment of calcific coronary artery lesions.
