Holger Thiele is the Medical Director of the Department of Internal Medicine/Cardiology at the Heart Center Leipzig at Leipzig University which is one of the largest heart centers in Europe. He is full professor at Leipzig University and he is the past president of the German Cardiac Society (2023-2025).
His main research interests are acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, cardiogenic shock, acute cardiovascular care, interventional cardiology and structural heart disease. He is involved in multiple guideline projects.
Professor Thiele has published >1200 articles in scientific journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, JAMA, Circulation, JACC, and the European Heart Journal with a cumulative impact factor of >13.000, h-index 128. He has received multiple awards from organisations including the European Society of Cardiology. Furthermore, he has been awarded as most cited researcher since 2020.
