Biographical Sketch: Christian Spies, MD

Dr. Spies was born and raised in Frankfurt, Germany. After graduating from medical school at University of Hamburg he completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Hawai’i, Honolulu, HI and fellowship in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. After completion of his training in 2008 he moved back to Hawai’i. He created the Queen’s Center for Valve and Structural Heart Disease, the first multidisciplinary environment for cardiovascular disease in Hawai’i, which was the foundation for many new structural heart therapies brought to the islands. After 10 years in Hawai'i he moved to San Francisco, CA to assist Sutter Health in further strengthening their growing structural heart program. Dr. Spies serves as a section chair of the national structural heart council with SCAI.
