Biographical Sketch: Dr. Claessen is an interventional cardiologist at the Amsterdam University Medical Centers, Amsterdam, the Netherlands where he also serves as co-director of the clinical trials center. He completed internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and an interventional cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Heart in New York, NY. He specializes in complex and high-risk percutaneous coronary interventions including chronic total occlusions and mechanically supported interventions. His research interests include imaging and treatment of vulnerable plaque, new drug-eluting stent and drug-coated balloon technology, and antiplatelet strategies after acute coronary syndromes. He has co-authored >200 peer reviewed publications and serves as (co-) principal investigator of several national and international clinical trials (Global e-Yukon Registry, DEBUT, LEGACY).
