Biographical Sketch: Dr. Obunai has been Chief, Department of Cardiology at Tokyo Bay Medical Center in Chiba, Japan since 2012. Prior to this, he was in New York City for two years as an attending interventional cardiologist at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University.
Dr. Obunai’s areas of interest in Interventional Cardiology includes: Complex Higher-risk Indicated Patient (CHIP), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve repair using MitraClip®, closure of atrial septal defect (ASD), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), and patent foramen ovale (PFO).
Dr. Obunai completed his medical education at Niigata University School of Medicine in Japan. He completed his post graduate medical training in the United States, Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular disease at Beth Israel Medical Center and Interventional Cardiology at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University. He is certified by the Board of Interventional Cardiology, Cardiology, and Internal Medicine both in Japan and United States.
