The success of Pediatric and Congenital Cardiology programs in the 21st century is directly related to how well all those involved work together as a high-functioning team, much like teams that win Olympic Gold, World Cups or Super Bowls. In the Harvard Business Review “Building Better Teams”, authors Jon R. Katzenbach and Douglas K. Smith define a team as, “...people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, set of performance goals, and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable”. This year’s Mullins’ Lecture will speak to the evolution of pediatric and congenital interventional cardiology into a 21st century team sport as well as to consider how best to build and lead successful interventional teams.
