Biographical Sketch: Dr. Benson did his cardiology fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in 1977. In 1979 he entered the graduate school program at UCLA Medical Center in Biophysics and was a research fellow for Dr. Bill Friedman. In 1980 he joined the clinical staff at UCLA Medical School and was the Co-Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. In 1983 he joined the clinical staff at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto as the Director of the Cardiac Diagnostic and Interventional Unit. Dr. Benson developed the interventional program in cardiac catheterization at the Hospital for Sick Children, which today is one of the largest programs in North America. He became a full professor of Pediatrics (Cardiology) in 1992, is author of over 375 original articles, numerous book chapters and several textbooks and has an international presence in both pediatric cardiology and interventional cardiology.
