Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Applegate is currently professor of medicine, and has been a central figure in interventional cardiology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center since 1987. His contributions to interventional cardiology are substantial. He led one of the first programmatic transitions from a femoral first to a radial first program in the United States at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in 2008. He has been involved in structural heart disease development in North Carolina, helping implant the first TAVR in North Carolina in 2011. Dr. Applegate has served on numerous editorial boards, including JACC, JACC: Intervention, Journal of Invasive Cardiology and the Journal of Interventional Cardiology. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has written more than 20 book chapters. He was inducted into MSCAI in 2016, and has served as chair of the Education, and budget and Finance committee; as well as chair of the Annual Meeting in 2017.
