Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Kanishka Ratnayaka is a board-certified pediatric cardiologist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Ratnayaka earned his medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine before completing his residency and fellowship at Children's National Medical Center. His medical education includes sub-specialty training in pediatric/congenital interventional cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiac MRI and his clinical practice focuses on congenital and structural heart interventions. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Ratnayaka worked in research collaboration with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the National Institutes of Health on interventional cardiovascular MRI for over 10 years. He has authored over 45 peer-reviewed manuscripts on key topics in his field and his research work includes interventional cardiac MRI, device development for novel applications, bioabsorbable stents for pediatric use and transcatheter electrosurgery. He holds several patents.
